Chariots Of Fire Theme

Vangelis’s 1981 theme: that slow synthesizer melody over a steady pulse, the sound of running in slow motion on a beach.

Why this ringtone works
The Chariots of Fire theme opens with that steady electronic pulse, then the piano melody rises over it like a sunrise. It’s instantly recognizable within two seconds, which is exactly what you want in a ringtone. It’s also calm enough that it won’t startle you in a quiet office, yet dramatic enough to make walking across the room to grab your phone feel like a victory lap.

A little history
Greek composer Vangelis wrote the theme for the 1981 film Chariots of Fire, the story of two British runners at the 1924 Paris Olympics. The score won the Academy Award for Best Original Score, and the single reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982, a rare feat for an instrumental. Since then it has become the universal soundtrack for anything done in slow motion, from marathon finish lines to the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.

Best uses
Set it as your main ringtone if you like your calls with a sense of occasion. It also makes a great morning alarm (waking up feels heroic), a custom tone for your running buddy, or a contact tone for the friend who is always fashionably late.
