iPhone ringtones are .m4r files up to 40 seconds. No computer needed since iOS 17 with the GarageBand route; the file route below works on any recent iOS.

  2. Open the Files app, find the .m4r and tap it once to preview.
  3. Tap the Share icon, scroll the app row and choose GarageBand (free on the App Store).
  4. In GarageBand tap the track, then the Share/Export icon, choose Ringtone, name it and tap Export.
  5. Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone. Your new tone is at the top of the list.
